In celebration of Availity’s 25th anniversary, we’re highlighting associates whose impact and dedication have helped shape who we are today. Through this special Associate Spotlight series, we’re honoring the people behind our story—past, present, and future.
In this Q&A, we’re proud to spotlight Zac M., who shares reflections on his journey, the moments that mattered most, and what continues to inspire him as part of Availity.
What are you most proud of from your time at Availity?
I’m most proud of being part of a company that consistently chooses to do the right thing, even when that path isn’t the easiest. I often think back to how the entire organization mobilized during and after the COVID-19 pandemic to help keep the healthcare ecosystem functioning. What stands out to me is how often Availity aligns integrity with execution, protecting the company and our customers while still moving quickly to solve real problems. That balance is rare, and it’s something I don’t take for granted.
What’s kept you here the longest?
It may sound cliché, but it’s truly the people. There are countless companies doing meaningful work to improve people’s lives, but the collective talent at Availity and the culture we’ve intentionally built together is unlike anything I’ve experienced elsewhere.
When did you join Availity, what was your first role, and what do you remember most about your first year?
I joined Availity in January 2016 as Staff Counsel. I was fortunate to have exceptional mentors who taught me not only how to be a strong lawyer but how to be a true partner to the business.
When you think about our Core Values, which one resonates the most with you and which do you think will propel us through the next 25 years?
The value that resonates most with me is “Healthcare is Personal.” Even when my day-to-day work is legal or operational, that value is a powerful reminder that every decision ultimately touches a patient, a provider, or a family trying to navigate a complicated system. It keeps the work grounded and human.
Looking ahead, I think “Own the Outcome” will be what propels Availity through the next 25 years. As the healthcare ecosystem continues to evolve, our willingness to take responsibility, think downstream, and act decisively, rather than waiting for someone else to solve the problem, is what will allow us to keep earning trust and leading change at scale.
What’s one “tiny way” your team removes friction from healthcare that most people never see?
One tiny but meaningful way my team removes friction is by quietly untangling complexity before it ever reaches our customers. Whether it’s refining contract language, navigating regulatory nuance, or helping teams structure solutions the right way from the start, a lot of our work happens behind the scenes. When we do it well, issues are avoided, and our partners experience Availity as polished and dependable.
What are three words you’d use to describe Availity today?
Transformation, Excitement, Trust.
Thank you, Zac, for your dedication and the impact you’ve made in helping shape Availity’s story over the past 25 years!
