Laura has been with Availity for an incredible 20 years, beginning her journey with RealMed, a Revenue Cycle Management company that was acquired by Availity in 2010. Over the years, she has grown within the Provider Support team, developing deep relationships with clients and a strong understanding of the healthcare ecosystem. While her roles have evolved, one thing has remained constant—her passion for connecting with clients and helping them navigate the ever-changing healthcare landscape.
Laura’s journey into healthcare technology wasn’t one she planned. With a degree in speech pathology, she had envisioned working hands-on with patients. But before pursuing her graduate studies, a family health crisis led her to take a job at a home care agency for additional support. That’s where something clicked. She found herself intrigued not just by the care being delivered—but by the systems and operations that made that care possible. That curiosity led her into roles focused on healthcare billing and operations, and ultimately to a long, meaningful career at Availity, where she continues to improve the healthcare experience for both providers and patients.
“What I enjoy most about working at Availity is being part of a company that embraces the constant change in healthcare and actively creates solutions to meet those evolving needs,” Laura says. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to know that the work we do helps providers, payers, and ultimately patients navigate a complex system more efficiently.”
Her work is personal, too. As the mother of two children with an extremely rare genetic mutation, with only about 200 known cases worldwide, Laura understands firsthand the challenges of navigating the healthcare system. From delayed treatments to constant appeals, her family’s experience has instilled a deep empathy that drives her commitment to improving healthcare every day. “My heart honestly skips a beat when I think about the potential we have—especially with AI—to transform processes like authorizations and appeals. We’re not just improving workflows; we’re making it possible for patients like my children to get timely, appropriate care.”
Laura is proud of the career she has built over the past two decades. “I’ve had the privilege of learning from incredibly talented people, building lasting relationships, and being part of numerous solution rollouts that have made a real impact. Availity has been more than just a workplace—it’s been a core part of my life.”
Her advice for others looking to succeed at Availity? “Stay curious and open to change. Build strong relationships, listen, and collaborate. And most importantly, stay connected to the ‘why’ behind what we do. When you remember that our work ultimately helps patients, it brings a deeper purpose to everything.” Laura also credits her professional growth to the tools and training Availity provides, as well as the invaluable insights she’s gained from clients and colleagues. “Some of my greatest learning has come directly from our clients—listening to their challenges, understanding their workflows, and partnering with them to find solutions has sharpened both my technical knowledge and problem-solving skills.”
When asked how she would describe her work life to a friend, Laura says: “It’s both challenging and incredibly rewarding. I get to collaborate with smart, passionate people and help healthcare providers solve real problems that impact patient care.”
Outside of work, Laura continues to serve her community through ministries that support foster children and individuals with autism spectrum disorders. She provides respite care to families, helping them find moments of rest and support. For Laura, this isn’t just a hobby; it’s a way for her to stay connected to her community and give back in a meaningful way.
A few fun facts? At home, her two dog coworkers keep her on task and proudly escort her to her desk every morning (and occasionally share her chair during work calls). Her favorite movie is Elf—a must-watch every year. She’s also a self-proclaimed foodie who grew up in a home where every meal was an adventure, thanks to her mom’s role as a test cook for a major food magazine.
Thank you, Laura, for your unwavering dedication, compassionate leadership, and the heart you bring to everything you do!
