Jason has been with Availity for over 11 years, holding a variety of leadership roles that have allowed him to grow his career, expand his responsibilities, and develop new expertise at every step. From his earliest days in healthcare to his current role as the leader of our Provider Services team, Jason’s journey is driven by a passion for improving healthcare for everyone.
Though he likes to say Healthcare IT chose him, Jason’s unique background makes him a natural fit for this industry. His career began at a national health plan before he transitioned into a leadership role at a provider-focused health IT vendor. The experience of serving both payers and providers gave him a clear view of the barriers that create waste and abrasion—and a desire to help remove them. Joining Availity allowed him to bring all of that together.
“What’s most important to me is simple: our mission,” Jason shares. “We truly believe every patient and member deserves a delightful healthcare experience. That’s not always the case today, and I wake up every morning doing my small part to help us achieve that mission. I’m grateful to have a role that allows me to prove it daily.”
Jason brings both humility and curiosity to his work. Even with prior healthcare knowledge, he was struck by how much there was to learn—and still is. “The pace of technology, AI, and how we support it continues to challenge and excite me every day. I have so much more to learn!”
As a leader on the Support and Operations team, Jason clearly sees the impact of his work, and he enjoys solving tough problems for important reasons. He says, “In my heart, I’m the same call center representative and claims processor I was 25 years ago—someone who loves to solve challenging issues for our clients. Now, I get to take even more pride in seeing others do the same.”
A career-defining moment came during a widespread cyber event that shook the industry. Jason and his team were proud to be part of the solution that stepped up to create lifelines for numerous payers and providers. “The days were long, but the work was incredibly rewarding.”
One of the things Jason values most about Availity is its culture. “We have a great culture and core values. People who really embody those tend to do well,” he says. “‘Explore Fearlessly’ and ‘Own the Outcome’ are two that resonate with me. If you work hard, stay curious, and push the mission forward, you’ll do great here.” Jason also appreciates Availity’s size, which is big enough to improve U.S. healthcare while still being agile and nimble enough to move quickly.
His personal connection to healthcare runs deep. When his daughter was born with bilateral hearing loss, Jason and his family began navigating the healthcare system—appointments, authorizations, and everything in between. “Our experience is no different from that of millions of Americans. I’m just fortunate to have the expertise to navigate it.” This perspective enables him to truly understand the significance of each phone call and the resolution of each support ticket.
Outside of work, Jason recharges by spending time with his family. His kids are at an age where they can share some of the same interests, such as music, camping, and live sports. He’s also a self-proclaimed bad golfer who keeps at it, hoping it might pay off one day. Live music is one of his favorite ways to unwind, and he describes it as “food for the soul.”
Jason’s favorite movie is Groundhog Day, his go-to food is pizza, and he counts Crucial Conversations and The Giving Tree among his favorite books.
When it comes to growing his team, Jason is excited about the possibilities: “We’re just scratching the surface of how we can use AI and automation to improve our support. It’s both scary and exciting, but staying true to our mission will guide us through that transformation.”
His advice for others at Availity? “If you’re already here, let’s continue to push for better healthcare. If you’re just joining us, welcome. We need your help and are glad you’re here.” Jason also encourages associates to take full advantage of the incredible knowledge within the organization. “It took me a few months after joining to realize how fortunate I am to be surrounded by so many industry leaders and experts, all of whom are more than willing to share their knowledge. Learning from everyone has been crucial to my growth at Availity.”
Thank you, Jason, for your unwavering dedication and leadership!
