JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Health information network Availity today announced a four-part webinar series designed to help medical providers prepare for impending inpatient diagnosis and procedure code changes associated with ICD-10.
The ICD-10 Webinar Series, which will feature national health care industry experts and address key issues associated with the new medical code set, kicks off Aug. 23. The series is complimentary for medical industry professionals, thanks to sponsorships by Scrubin Uniforms and Florida Blue, in partnership with RealMed, an Availity company.
Offered in a 60-minute live webinar format, each session is presented in real-time with a simultaneous visual presentation. Each session concludes with a question-and-answer period with the speaker.
All health care providers will be required to transition to the new code set in the next two years, although the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services has not yet issued a final rule on the deadline for the transition. Changes resulting from the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, 10th Revision (ICD-10), will establish medical diagnosis and in-patient procedure codes which are more contemporary and provide greater detail than the current code sets. ICD-10 training among medical professionals is considered essential to avoid disruptions to the provider revenue cycle and patient services once the new code sets are implemented. The Availity ICD-10 Webinar Series aims to outline the changes, issues, and actions facing medical practices nationwide. Timelines and practical tips for ICD-10 migration will be discussed and will reinforce why it is essential to prepare now to be ready by the proposed 2014 deadline. Key differences between medical documentation requirements for ICD-9 and ICD-10 will be identified, and attendees will learn about mapping and translation issues that may affect their practices. In addition, medical professionals will learn about the challenges ICD-10 brings to the entire health care industry and what they can do now to mitigate business disruptions.
“At Availity, we’re always looking for new ways to create efficiencies to help physicians and their staffs focus on patients, not paperwork,” said Jeff Chester, Availity senior vice president of service and sales. “Through the ICD-10 Webinar Series, we can help educate medical professionals about ways to create a business advantage by preparing now for administrative process change. We’re also delighted to have Scrubin Uniforms and Florida Blue join us in delivering these seminars. Their sponsorship enables us to extend this valuable series, at no expense, to all attendees who want to participate.”
Together, the Scrubin Uniforms and Florida Blue sponsorships provide complimentary enrollment for all who register. Registration is available at the Availity Learning Center. Participants receive a certificate of completion and continuing education units where applicable. Medical group practice administrators, managers, office, billing and clinical staff are encouraged to attend.
“The attraction in sponsoring the educational program is simple,” noted Vicki Linn, principal with Scrubin Uniforms. “We’re in the business of bringing comfort to the daily lives of medical staff – and we saw the ICD-10 Webinar Series as a way to minimize the pain often associated with change.” Linn elaborated, “By sponsoring the delivery of practical advice and actionable recommendations, we hope to make it more comfortable for health care professionals to transition to ICD-10.”
Similarly, Florida Blue reinforced its focus on being a trusted health partner offering guidance and support. Darnell Smith, group vice president of service organization and business process management ontology, said, “The impending changes ICD-10 brings will require the complete partnership and collaboration of both the health plan and health care provider to make a successful transition. Florida Blue is currently engaged in multiple provider collaboration and education events as well as continuing to partner with Availity on future endeavors.”
