Health information network is prepared to help providers through transition
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Availity announces that it is fully prepared to meet the Oct. 1, 2014 deadline for ICD-10, a federal mandate that requires all providers and HIPAA-covered entities use an updated code set to bill for health care services. As Availity helps prepare customers and business partners for a smooth and coordinated transition, the health information network is offering training, testing, tools and other valuable resources to support customer needs.
On Oct. 1, 2014, the health care industry will begin using a revised and expanded set of codes – growing to 69,000 codes from today’s set of 13,600 – employed by physicians and other health care providers to classify and code diagnoses, symptoms and inpatient procedures. There is significant risk for disruption in claims reimbursement and cash flow for providers if they and other HIPAA-covered entities are not prepared for the transition.
Availity completed necessary system upgrades more than a year in advance of the federal government deadline so its full product suite, which includes the Availity Web Portal, Revenue Cycle Management and the Advanced Clearinghouse, would be capable of processing customer claims without disruption. In addition, customer testing of ICD-10 claims began in October. Availity recommends early testing – an important component of provider preparedness.
“With all the challenges providers already face in billing and collections, they simply cannot afford disruptions in their revenue stream,” said Russ Thomas, Availity CEO. “That’s why we’re going above and beyond to support our providers during the conversion– we want to do everything possible to make sure our customers continue to have seamless reimbursement after the mandate deadline.”
Availity formed an ICD-10 leadership team nearly a year ago to ensure customer success, and has actively participated in industry workgroups and initiatives to pass on that expertise. The health information network has also partnered with Complete Practice Resources to offer Ready10, an affordable implementation and project management system.
In addition, customers get the benefit of best-in-class ICD-10 training and education from industry experts through the Availity Learning Center. The training site for Availity has hosted more than a dozen ICD-10 webinars, including specialty-specific sessions on coding and others related to preparing with Availity. Many live and recorded sessions are eligible for AAPC continuing education credits.
“We will continue to offer a variety of free and low-cost training options to help our customers through this change,” said Kristina Oliver, Availity’s director of learning. “ICD-10 represents one of the biggest changes providers have faced in decades, and we are leveraging the industry’s top authorities coupled with leading training and educational tools to bring them world-class ICD-10 learning programs.”
