Our History


Today, Availity operates the largest real time information network in healthcare, connecting over a million providers, health plans and their technology partners. We work collaboratively with health plans and providers to disrupt an antiquated healthcare system by solving core issues in the way stakeholders communicate. Fixing the broken provider data management process and creating real time communication of risk and quality information are two examples. Availity also offers providers, hospitals, and health systems revenue cycle and patient financial management solutions. We help prepare our providers for the rise in consumerism and value based care, so that they can get paid for their services.

But take a look at how we got here.


Availity was launched in Jacksonville, Florida as a joint venture between Florida Blue (formerly Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida) and Humana. The vision was to make it easier for health plans and providers to collaborate by streamlining processes among payers, thus reducing administrative abrasion between providers and payers.


Availity combined with The Health Information Network, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Health Care Service Corporation, which operates Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. The merger expanded Availity’s national footprint and accelerated the company’s ability to accommodate large-scale batch data transactions.


Anthem, which operates Blue Cross and Blue Shield health plans in 14 states, selected Availity as a strategic part of its suite of online provider solutions and made an investment in Availity’s provider engagement strategy. Later that year, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota joined Availity and replaced its own electronic health information network, ClearConnect.


Availity acquired RealMed, an award-winning provider of revenue cycle management services. The acquisition positioned the combined enterprise to deliver health information solutions to a nationally expanding network of providers, health plans, and vendor partners.


Availity acquired Nashville, Tennessee based RevPoint Healthcare Technologies to help providers increase patient collections at the beginning of the revenue cycle process. The acquisition simplifies upfront payment processes for providers and their patients, and adds patient access capabilities to Availity’s revenue cycle product suite.

In the same year, Availity made a significant investment in its infrastructure to build a powerful, industry-leading intelligence platform, Availity Real-time Intelligent Exchange Service (ARIES). ARIES provided Availity the foundation to build a new series of dynamic products.


With the addition of a new Hospital Solutions team, Availity expanded its customer base to include a number of hospitals and health systems throughout the country—surpassing 900,000 providers in its network reach.

Leveraging the power of the ARIES platform, Availity launched Revenue Program Management, an automated solution to risk adjustment, and Provider Data Management, which addresses inaccuracies in health plan provider directories.


Availity expanded internationally with the acquisition of Fore Support Services (now Availity India), a business process automation company with a large presence in Bangalore, India. With this division’s focus on customer service and automation, Availity was able to deliver an expanded portfolio of cost-effective healthcare services, available 24/7.


Availity welcomed Francisco Partners, a leading technology-focused private equity firm, as the newest member of its investor group. Already the nation’s largest real-time health information network, this investment positioned Availity for even greater scale and customer-focused innovation.
