Founded in 2001, Availity has grown to become one of the nation’s largest health care information networks. With its origins in a collaborative effort between two of the country’s leading health care plans, Availity has taken the insights from its founders, combined it with a spirit of innovation and earned its place as a leader in the health care information business.
Today, the Availity Health Information Network® extends to more than 350,000 active providers; 2,700 hospitals; 575 vendor partners and all health plans nationwide.
2001: Availity was formed in Jacksonville, Fla., as a joint venture between Florida Blue (formerly Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida) and Humana in an effort to improve efficiency and reduce administrative complexity in the health care industry, with the ultimate goal of improving health care outcomes.
2006: Availity combined with The Health Information Network, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Health Care Service Corporation, which operates Blue Cross and Blue Shield plans in Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas. The merger expanded Availity’s national footprint and accelerated the company’s ability to accommodate large-scale “batch” data transmissions.
2009: WellPoint, which operates Blue Cross and Blue Shield health plans in 14 states, selected Availity as a strategic part of its suite of online provider solutions and made an investment in Availity’s multi-plan platform. Later that year, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota joined Availity and replaced its own electronic health information network, ClearConnect.
2010: Availity acquires RealMed, an award-winning provider of revenue cycle management services. The acquisition positioned the combined enterprise to deliver health information solutions to a nationally expanding network of providers, health plans and vendor partners.
2014: Availity acquired Nashville, Tennessee-based RevPoint Healthcare Technologies to help providers increase patient collections at the beginning of the revenue cycle process. The acquisition simplifies “up-front” payment processes for providers and their patients, and adds patient access capabilities to Availity’s revenue cycle product suite.
Today: Availity delivers revenue cycle and related business solutions for health care professionals who want to build healthy, thriving organizations. Availity has the powerful tools, actionable insights and expansive network reach that medical businesses need to get an edge.
Whether health care professionals use Availity’s Revenue Cycle Management, Advanced Clearinghouse, Web Portal or Patient Access services, they’ll be able to drive measurable and meaningful organizational improvements, and enjoy the vitality of a healthy business.
